Watch your step!: This shot is something I've been wanting to do for a few weeks. Our photography club, The Southeastern Photographic Society, has it's March meeting this coming Friday and the theme is "Humor". I've been entering images in the monthly competitions to get some feedback and constructive criticism. Over the last 6 months I've entered a few decent images and received some valuable feedback. The images are presented one at a time, anonymously, and critiqued.
With this month's theme I really didn't have anything that had shot that would fit the Humor category so I came up with the bright idea of shooting the classic "Man vs Banana" and entering it in the contest. Today was the day to do the shot so I put on my best suit-pants and polished my shoes :-) I initially tried the shot inside but I didn't have enough light to make it work very well (I nedd to invest in a better flash and maybe a light or two). So I ventured out onto the driveway to see what I could do. It was late afternoon and the Sun was casting some serious shadows but the light was much better. I tried positioning the camera and Banana peel in several different orientations but there were still shadows. I snapped off a few shots using my cable release and went inside to see what I could do.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I really try to display photograph things "as I see them" and present them as such without a lot of post-processing image altering techniques. In this case though, since it was more of a creative shot, I decided to clone out the shadows. I think I did a pretty good job with it but I'm still learning.
Now we'll see how my interpretation of "humor" sits with the judge on Friday night!
